“Latest American Outcasts: Stories from Immigrants in Athens,” a program to raise awareness about the struggles of immigrants in Georgia, will be held Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in Room 245 of the Miller Learning Center.
Open free to the public, the program brings the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition to campus to discuss recent state legislation as well as the federal Secure Communities program.
Members of AIRC, a group encompassing local religious, civic and university-based organizations working collectively to support immigrant communities in Georgia, will share their stories and provide information about what interested citizens can do to help.
The program is sponsored by GLOBES, the university’s faculty and staff LGBTQ organization, the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition and the Lambda Alliance.
