raduate students, postdocs and new faculty can learn the ins and outs of the UGA research enterprise at UGA-ROOTS (Researcher Orientation and Ongoing Training Series), a new quarterly orientation and training series that kicks off April 27 from 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. in the Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences.
The series will provide bench researchers with essential information about the complex business of conducting research at UGA, said Chuck Mobley, president of PDA. It also will provide participants with additional skills training that will benefit their current and future positions.
“The information participants gain about doing research at UGA and the skills they acquire translate into improving the research atmosphere at UGA and its reputation,” Mobley said.
UGA-ROOTS will be offered every three months. The first 90-minute session is an orientation by Robert Scott, associate vice president for research, who will address human resources issues, postdoc and graduate student policies, international education, environmental/lab safety, purchasing chemicals/research supplies and using the UGA libraries, among other topics.
The event was organized by the Postdoctoral Association, the Graduate Students and Postdocs in Science and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
