Mike Doyle, Regents Professor of Food Microbiology and director of UGA’s Center for Food Safety, appeared in stories on CNN and was quoted by The Associated Press about antibiotic-resistant bacteria found in meat.
The discovery by the Food and Drug Administration added fuel to a debate about the overuse of antibiotics in livestock.
Doyle told CNN that he believed many farmers are reducing the use of antibiotics in their livestock.
“I predict within the next five years, the concept of using antibiotics as a prophylactic with animals is not going to continue,” Doyle said.
