The State Botanical Garden will hold its biennial “Gold in Your Garden” symposium Sept. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Callaway Building. Admission, which includes lunch, is $60 in advance or $70 at the door.
Four speakers will teach participants how to design with and grow Georgia Gold Medal Plants, a palette of beautiful, reliable, easy-to-grow plants for Georgia gardens. At noon, author Erica Glasener will give the symposium’s keynote address, “Designing with Gold: Creating a Garden for Year-round Interest.” The recipient of the garden media award from the Perennial Plant Association, Glasener also received an award of excellence from the Garden Writers Association of America for her work on HGTV’s A Gardener’s Diary.
Dottie Myers of Dottie Myers and Associates in Decatur will discuss “Favorite Gold Medal Plants and Their Best Use” and offer design and cultivation advice for specific plants. Horticulturist Mike Sikes of Athens will talk about “New Cultivars of Past Winners.” And Matt Whiddon, president in Color Inc. in Columbus, will discuss “Color in the Garden.”
The plant sale will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Callaway Building. It will be open to symposium attendees and the public.
