Community Dance Day will provide a host of free events Oct. 13

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences dance department will present its fourth annual Community Dance Day, an afternoon of free events to share the joy of dance with the UGA and Athens communities. This year’s event will be held Oct. 13 in the dance building on South Campus.

The dance celebration will include adult and children’s classes beginning at 1 p.m. in the dance studios. Registration is first come, first served.

Tickets can be reserved online at pac.uga.edu, by calling 706-542-4400 or going to the Tate Student Center cashier’s window.

Concurrent offerings include beginning adult ballroom dance-for ages 12 and up-an intermediate level ballet technique class for ages 10 to adult, an informal talk on the technical and production aspects of dance performance, and, new this year, a community-based movement workshop, “Movement for Life,” from 1-2:30 p.m. Open to those ages 7 and older with no dance experience necessary, the workshop explores movement both individually and as an interactive group, with the purpose of moving with ease, expression and joy.
Following the classes, an outdoor reception will be held at the dance building from 2:15-2:45 p.m.

Finally, a family-oriented, engaging “Informance” will take place at 3 p.m. in the New Dance Theatre.
