Ralph DiClemente, associate director for the Emory Center for AIDS Research, will deliver the second lecture of the Bernard B. Ramsey Lecture Series March 6 at 4:30 p.m.
The lecture, “Sex, Media and HIV/STDs: The Evolution of Prevention Strategies in the Media,” will be held in the Cindy Rooker Fireside Lounge, located in John W. Rooker Hall in the East Campus Village. DiClemente is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Public Health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. He holds concurrent appointments as professor in the medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and nursing departments at Emory ‘s School of Medicine. Most recently, he served as chair of the Rollins School’s behavioral sciences and health education department.
DiClemente’s area of expertise is in the development and evaluation of prevention programs tailored to African-American adolescents and young adults. He has published extensively in the area of HIV/STI prevention, particularly among African-American adolescents and young adults as well as in the area of partner violence.
He currently is president of the Georgia chapter of the Society for Adolescent Medicine and an executive board member of the American Sexually Transmitted Disease Association. He also is on the Board of Scientific Counselors to the CDC Center for Infectious Diseases and the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Mental Health.
DiClemente was trained as a health psychologist at the University of California San Francisco where he received his doctorate in 1984 after completing a master’s degree at the Harvard School of Public Health and earning his undergraduate degree at the City University of New York.
The Ramsey Lecture is open free to the public, but reservations were required.
