The 2015-2016 Latin American Sustainable Agriculture film series will conclude with the screening of Children of the Amazon.
Open free to the public, the film addresses how the environment and the lives of indigenous peoples in the Amazon rainforest are transformed by the construction of a highway. It will be shown April 22 at 6 p.m. in Room 214 of the Miller Learning Center.
UGA alumna Felice Wyndham, who worked with the Ayoreo people in Paraguay on the challenges faced by indigenous peoples when their lands were encroached, will speak before the screening. Wyndham received a doctorate in anthropology from UGA in 2004.
The film’s director, Denise Zmekhol, will interact with the audience via Skype after the screening and provide an update about the people and the situation in the film.
The film series is sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute and the sociology department in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
