Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Office of Undergraduate Admissions announced the promotion Milly Legra to associate director of admissions and director of new student orientation, effective April 1. With the move of longtime orientation director Eric Johnson to oversee operations at the UGA Visitors Center, Legra has been serving as interim director since last November in addition to her role as senior assistant director of admissions-outreach, a joint position with the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach.
A 2002 graduate of UGA, Legra was herself an orientation leader in 2000 and has worked in undergraduate admissions since 2004, serving for three years as assistant director of orientation with Johnson. Legra feels these experiences give her a great deal of perspective regarding the program.
“I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with orientation in different capacities throughout the years and am well-equipped with a holistic view of the program and its value to students and the campus community,” she said.
Legra added that while the current program is well established, there is always room for growth and improvement.
“In planning this year’s and future orientation sessions, I always will take into account the needs of the university and changing student populations while striving to maintain the successful legacy that the UGA orientation program carries,” she said.
“Milly brings a vast range of experiences and knowledge of UGA and orientation and has a great vision for the program,” said Nancy McDuff, associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management.
The first new student orientation will be held June 2 for summer session students.
As associate director of admissions, Legra will continue the collaboration between undergraduate admissions and VPPSO, managing outreach to underserved segments of Georgia’s population and familiarizing younger prospective students with the college admissions process.
“This joint position has given me the opportunity to create and develop new relationships with middle and high schools,” she said. “I have been charged with planning several programs over the course of this year and will continue to direct and implement those.”
