Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Office of Undergraduate Admissions has selected its new group of 12 undergraduate students who will serve as orientation leaders during new student orientation in summer 2011.
The orientation leaders are usually the first point-of-contact for first-year and transfer students who attend new student orientation.Through presentations and panel discussions, the leaders focus on UGA’s academic and extracurricular opportunities. They also perform skits and songs to help welcome the new students to the university community.
The leaders meet with and facilitate discussions with small groups of about 20 students each. They share their campus experiences and are able to answer more specific questions during these discussions. The orientation leaders also serve as a resource for parents and families who attend orientation.
“I am very excited about working with this group of OLs because of their wide-range of involvement on and off campus,” said Milly Gorman, associate director of admissions and director of new student orientation. “We will begin Orientation Leader training in January, but they already have so much to offer the incoming students.”
The group, made up of one freshman, six sophomores and five juniors, was chosen for its strong communication skills, leadership abilities and enthusiastic campus spirit.
