Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia College of Public Health will hold “Information Day” on March 4, at 2 p.m. in the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences.This open house will highlight all of the academic units in public health and focus on graduate level programs. The public is invited to attend this informational event.
Faculty from academic areas will discuss degree requirements, current research projects and career opportunities.Academic units at the College of Public Health include biostatistics, disaster management, environmental health, epidemiology, gerontology, global health, health policy and management, health promotion and behavior, and toxicology.
The event will focus on the highly competitive master of public health and doctor of public health.The MPH at the university was developed to address the critical need for highly trained public health professionals. Through coursework and field learning experiences, MPH students receive training to provide service and leadership in public health in Georgia, the United States and around the globe. The two-year program is designed for health professionals who wish to expand their skills, knowledge and expertise, and for students who wish to build a career in public health.
The doctor of public health program is designed to be an advanced professional degree congruent with the Institute of Medicine’s recommendations for linkages of academic and field experiences in public health. The program’s competency-based curriculum will prepare public health professionals to address complex public health problems through mastery of multiple skills.The DrPH program provides comprehensive public health training and draws on a variety of academic disciplines to educate mid- to senior-level professionals in public health.
