Athens, Ga. – The International Student Life office at the University of Georgia will host the 13th Annual International Street Festival on April 9, noon – 5 p.m. on College Ave. in downtown Athens. More than 35 international and multicultural student organizations will sponsor interactive cultural displays as well as musical and dance performances representing 15 countries. The festival is free and open to the public.
“The festival is designed to promote cultural diversity, awareness and tolerance among international and university students and the Athens and surrounding communities in a fun, festive and educational environment,” said Ashley Wichman, assistant director of ISL. “Last year more than 5,000 people attended, and we’re hoping to top that number this year.”
The ISL Office was formed in 1997 to support UGA’s goal of fostering a campus climate that appreciates the interdependent global society. ISL strives to create a welcoming environment by providing opportunities for the interaction of international students with U.S. students.
Some of ISL’s programs and services include international orientation, advising for international student organizations, tax-preparation assistance, off-campus housing support, cross-cultural adjustment counseling and individual student advising.
