Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art will host Integrative Teaching International’s ThinkTank6, June 8-11. An invitation-only facilitated forum, ThinkTank attracts leaders in art education from around the nation to discuss and deliberate accountability and preparation of first-year art and design students.
This year, 42 invited teaching artists and art and design administrators will assemble to discuss this year’s ThinkTank topic, Leading Change. During two and a half days, participants will work in four breakout groups to prepare reports on four topics:
Learning Partnerships: Engaging Student Leadership in the Classroom
Facilitator: Michael Arrigo, associate professor and first year program coordinator at Bowling Green State University
Momentum in Curricular Leadership: From Content to Delivery
Facilitator: Stacy Isenbarger, M.F.A. from UGA, vice president of outreach for ITI, recently appointed assistant professor of sculpture at the University of Idaho
Artful Leadership: Responsive Management From Adjuncts to Deans
Facilitator: Bill Hill, dean of the College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University and tenured associate professor of computer art and design
Seeking Connections: Building a Community of Inquiry
Facilitator: Anthony Fontana, incoming president of ITI, learning technologist and instructor of art at Bowling Green State University
This is the third consecutive year ThinkTank has been hosted by the Lamar Dodd School of Art.
“Schools of art and design have to show that our students are being trained in ways of thinking important for the 21st century, and ThinkTank is a place where we take that challenge on and try to understand what is best about our traditions and where we need to change,” said Richard Seigesmund, president of ITI and associate professor of art education at UGA. “With the support of the University of Georgia, ITI has been able to grow into a national organization that is engaging teaching artists from across the United States, as well as Canada and Ireland.”
Reports on the proceedings of ThinkTank6 will be published in ITI’s journal, Future Forward, which is available for free download at integrativeteaching.org. ThinkTank6’s program was organized by Jim Elniski, associate professor, contemporary practices, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and ITI vice president for programming.
