Ten parking decks at UGA, including two still under construction, are undergoing inspections after the partial collapse of a deck in Atlanta last month.
The general contractor for the new decks at UGA’s intramural field and the Performing Arts Center is Hardin Construction Co. of Atlanta. The company built the six-story Centergy Parking Deck near Georgia Tech that partially collapsed June 29.
Two consulting firms have been hired for the inspections at UGA. KSi/Structural Engineers of Atlanta is conducting structural inspections of the parking decks. Timothy Haahs and Associates of Philadelphia is developing a long-term maintenance and inspection plan. Both firms are expected to complete their reports by the time fall classes begin Aug. 17.
Hardin Construction will pay for the inspection of the parking decks under construction while UGA’s parking services will pay for the inspection of the remaining eight decks as well as the preventive maintenance plan
