The Athletic Association’s board of directors has banned all smoking at Sanford Stadium beginning this football season.
Before the total ban, smoking was permitted at designated areas within the stadium. In addition to a complete block of smoking inside Sanford’s gates, attendees also will not be allowed to exit the stadium to smoke and then re-enter.
The board’s move puts Sanford Stadium under the same guidelines as all other UGA facilities, none of which allow smoking indoors. The decision comes at a time when several Southeastern Conference institutions have decided to take similar stands against smoking in stadiums. Other conference schools, such as the University of Tennessee, also have gone smoke free.
