Joe West, assistant dean at UGA’s Tifton campus, was honored with the Distinguished Service Award at the Georgia Peanut Farm Show, held Jan. 16 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center.
The Distinguished Service Award honors professionals who have made important contributions to Georgia’s peanut and agriculture industries.
Each year, the winner of this award is selected by Georgia Peanut Commission Board members and the Farm Show committee from submitted nominations.
West will retire from UGA on Feb. 29 after a 34-year career at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. During his 12 years as assistant dean, West spearheaded extensive capital improvements on the front campus, including the renovations of the Tift and Agriculture Research buildings and the construction of the Centennial Garden as part of the campus’s 100-year celebration in 2019.
