Following a national search, Larry Malota has been named associate chief information officer and Banner project coordinator for the University of Georgia Enterprise Information Technology Services office. Malota’s appointment took effect Feb. 1.
Previous to his appointment at UGA, Malota served as associate director for enterprise information systems at Texas A&M University.
“Throughout his career at Texas A&M University, Larry has consistently proven himself to be one of the most trusted leaders in information technology,” said Timothy M. Chester, UGA chief information officer. “This reputation is due to two of his most important traits: First, he simply does what he says that he can or will do. Second, when supporting functional areas, Larry has a well-deserved reputation for doing so on the basis of what best serves the needs of the functional teams.”
As associate chief information officer, Malota will provide overall leadership for development and implementation of Banner, the new student information system, and support for systems such as DegreeWorks. Post-implementation of Banner, he will oversee all EITS teams who provide upkeep for academic information systems.
At Texas A&M, Malota was the associate director-technical lead responsible for directing the efforts of more than 30 team members in support of the Banner Student Information System. Malota earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1977 and 1986, respectively.
