The Georgia Museum of Art’s catalog for one of its current exhibitons, Expanding Tradition: Selections from the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Collection, is available for purchase. The catalog accompanies the exhibition of the same name, which is on view through May 7.
The exhibition showcases 58 works in the Thompsons’ collection of art by African-Americans, with full-page color images of each work in the exhibition.
Shawnya L. Harris, the museum’s Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Curator of African American and African Diasporic Art, who also teaches in the Lamar Dodd School of Art, contributes an overview of the Thompsons’ commitment to art collecting and discusses the shifting artistic and political landscape for African-American artists found in their collection.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Avid Bookshop will host a meet and greet with Harris April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at its 493 Prince Ave. location. Harris will sign copies of the book.
