Janet Jakobsen, director of the Barnard College Center for Research on Women and a professor of human rights, gender, sexuality and women’s studies, will deliver the 19th annual Andrea Carson Coley Lecture April 19 at 12:30 p.m. in the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium of the Georgia Museum of Art.
Jakobsen will lecture on “The Woman Question: Gender, Sexuality and Public Policy.” A reception honoring the Coley family will precede the lecture at 11:30 a.m. in the Georgia Museum’s lobby.
The lecture and reception are open free to the public.
Before entering academia, Jakobsen was a policy analyst and lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Among her research interests are gender, sexuality and religion in American public life; social movements and feminist alliance politics; feminist and queer ethics; and global issues of economics and violence.
Jakobsen received her doctorate from Emory University.
