Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will present the chamber ensemble Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Hodgson Concert Hall. The concert is part of the Franklin College Chamber Music Series.
The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet has garnered a worldwide reputation for its range of expression, tonal spectrum and conceptual unity. Founded in 1988, the group has released 16 albums and contains four of its five original members.
The group is made up of Michael Hasel, flute; Andreas Wittmann, oboe; Walter Seyfarth, clarinet; Fergus McWilliam, horn; and Marion Reinhard, bassoon.
The ensemble’s Athens program will include Anton Reicha’s Quintet in B-flat Major, Gyorgy Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet, André Jolivet’s Serenade for Wind Quintet and Claude-Paul Taffanel’s Quintet for Winds in G Minor. The concert will be recorded for national broadcast on American Public Media’s Performance Today.
In addition to the concert, the Performing Arts Center will sponsor master classes for UGA music students with each of the quintet’s musicians.
