Kurt Binder, adjunct professor in the Center for Simulational Physics and the department of physics and astronomy, was named one of the only two Gutenberg Fellows at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz in Germany.
The Gutenberg College was formed last summer as a strategic effort to elevate the Universität Mainz in international standing. Gutenberg Fellows are scholars of special international caliber who are relieved of all administrative responsibilities. The home department of each Gutenberg Fellow also will be allowed to fill the “vacated” professorial position. The fellowship was awarded by the minister of science, education and culture for the State of Rheinland-Pfalz. Binder is one of the pioneers of computer simulations in Europe and has been an adjunct faculty member at UGA for more than two decades.
