The Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries’ Rest of the Story book club will feature Swamp Water, written by Georgia Writers Hall of Fame inductee Vereen Bell, at its Oct. 27 meeting.
The first novel by the south Georgia native, Swamp Water was an immediate critical and financial success. The setting is the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp. Movie versions were made in 1941 and in 1951.
The book club meeting will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. in the special collections libraries. Discussion will be led by Jan Hebbard, lead curator of Russell Library’s exhibit Seeing Georgia: Changing Visions of Tourism in the Modern South.
The Rest of the Story focuses on works connected to upcoming/ongoing exhibitions at the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. The book club is open free to the public.
