Athens, Ga. – Julie Guthman, an associate professor in the community studies department at the University of California at Santa Cruz, will deliver the first Fred E. Dohrs lecture in economic geography on Friday, Nov. 6, at 3:30 p.m. in room 200C of the Geography-Geology Building on the University of Georgia campus.
Guthman’s speech, which is open free to the public, is entitled “Up Against the Limits of Alternative Food: The Case of the `Obesogenic Environment.'”
Guthman is author of Agrarian Dreams: The Paradox of Organic Faming in California. Her interests include sustainable agriculture and alternative food movements, international political economy of food and agriculture and the “politics of obesity,” among other topics.
The event is sponsored by the department of geography, part of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
