Faculty, staff and students are invited to go car free April 23 and to use alternative transportation—bike, walking, carpool or riding the bus—to get to campus.
Commute captains will be located on the east side (at the corner of College Station Road and International Drive) at 7:10 and 9 a.m. or at the intersection of Milledge and Oakland avenues at 7:15 and 8 a.m. to lead groups to campus.
Car Free Day participants are invited to stop by the front entrance of Memorial Hall between 7:30 and 11 a.m. for free food and drink, a chance to win prizes including gift certificates, gear and a free bike check from Sunshine Cycles.
The event is being held by the Odum School of Ecology, in collaboration with the Go Green Alliance and Students for Environmental Action as part of Earth Week at UGA and Athens GreenFest, a community-wide celebration of the environment during April. A schedule of GreenFest events is online at www.athensgreenfest.com. More details about Car Free Day are available at www.ecology.uga.edu/events.php?Car_Free_Day-320/.
