Athens, Ga. – Chefs from the University of Georgia Food Services returned home with two medals after competing in the 2014 National Association of College and University Food Services Southern Region Culinary Challenge at Oklahoma State University.

Chef Tim Neal tied for fourth place in the competition, and his recipe of lobster and Southern lobster cake earned a bronze medal. Chef Don Law took sixth place in the competition, and his lobster pot pie recipe earned a bronze medal.

The chefs were two of six chefs selected to compete at the regional level. This is the 14th regional competition for UGA Food Services, which has had a chef selected for the competition every year since 2001.

The NACUFS Culinary Challenge recognizes outstanding food preparation and presentation skills in collegiate food service programs. Selection is based on many factors including originality, presentation, cooking methods and nutritional analysis. The total competition time for each competitor was 80 minutes with five minutes to set their stations, 60 minutes to cook, 10 minutes to plate four dishes and five minutes to clean and exit their stations.

The competition is judged by chefs from the American Culinary Federation. This is the first ACF medal for both Neal and Law.
