Archie Carroll, Robert W. Scherer Professor Emeritus at UGA’s Terry College of Business, was quoted in an Atlanta Business Chronicle article about the upcoming sentencing of three former Home Depot executives who ran a kickback scheme that netted them millions of dollars in cash and merchandise. The three pleaded guilty to wire fraud and income tax evasion in a scheme that involved taking kickbacks from foreign vendors seeking to do business with the big-box retailer.
“This kind of kickback is classic,” said, Carroll, who has written extensively on corporate ethics. “I’m surprised that Home Depot didn’t have better safeguards in place.”
