College of Education to offer Structural Equation Modeling Workshop May 15-18

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Education and Human Development will present a Structural Equation Modeling Workshop May 15-18 at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center at the Georgia Center.
The workshop will introduce participants to the basics of model estimation, evaluation of model fit and model interpretation for basic structural equation models. The workshop will cover path models, confirmatory factor analysis models and full structural models. Participants also will be instructed how to use the LISREL computer package, also known as linear structural relations computer software. Using LISREL, the participants will conduct analyses and if time permits, analyze their own data.
Deborah Bandalos will be the instructor for the course, which will consist of lectures and hands-on activities. Bandalos is a professor and director of the assessment and measurement doctoral program at James Madison University. Her research includes structural equation modeling, scale development techniques, reliability and validity studies, and educational accountability and assessment systems.
In 2011, Bandalos was elected as council representative for Division 5 of the American Psychological Association. In the same year, she was appointed to the Examination Committee of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology boards of directors, which are licensed to serve in the U.S. and Canada.
Bandalos is the associate editor of the Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal and is currently preparing to publish a book titled Measurement Theory and Applications for the Social Sciences.
The workshop is $1,200 per participant, and registration ends May 1. Each participant will receive workshop materials, refreshment breaks, lunch and parking passes for each day of the workshop. For more information, see www.coe.uga.edu/events/category/institute-workshop/.
