Columbia University trustees unanimously approved a funding commitment of $15 million to a campaign for faculty diversification. The campaign includes efforts to hire 15-20 female and minority scholars in the arts and sciences department over the next three to five years.
The diversification plans also include a change in the process of faculty recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion.
“Building a diverse university community requires sustained commitment, concerted effort and the attention of us all,” says Lee C. Bollinger, Columbia’s president. “With this investment we are reaffirming Columbia University’s commitment to our core values of inclusion and academic excellence.”
