Provost Jere Morehead has appointed a committee to begin a national search to fill the position of dean of UGA’s new College of Engineering.
Dale Threadgill, who previously served as director of the Faculty of Engineering, was named founding dean of the college in July. He plans to retire in the summer of 2013 after a 38-year career at the university.
Svein Oie, dean of UGA’s College of Pharmacy, will chair the search committee that includes faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Faculty members on the committee are Clifton Baile, distinguished professor and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Agricultural Biotechnology; David Gattie, associate professor of engineering; Takoi Hamrita, professor of engineering; Jenna Jambeck, assistant professor of engineering; Nadia Kellam, associate professor of engineering; William Kisaalita, professor of engineering; Charles Kutal, professor of chemistry and associate dean in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences; David Lee, vice president for research; Jason Locklin, associate professor of chemistry and engineering; and Brahm Verma, professor emeritus of engineering.
Patsy Adams, an office manager in the college, is the staff representative. Barnie Beasley, a 1973 graduate in agricultural engineering, who was the inaugural chair of the College of Engineering Advisory Board and continues to serve as a board member, is the alumni representative to the committee.
Student representatives are Katie Baker, a master’s student in biological engineering, and Jonathan Jones, an undergraduate majoring in biochemical engineering and a Student Government Association senator.
The committee will be assisted by the search firm Witt/Kieffer.
