Violin professor to give concert of European sonatas, premiere faculty work

Michael Heald, associate professor of violin in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will give a recital featuring the Georgia premiere of a new piece by UGA faculty member Leonard V. Ball, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in Ramsey Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 or $5 for UGA students.

Heald’s performance, part of the Performing Arts Center’s Faculty Recital Series, features sonatas for violin and piano by Robert Schumann and Gabriel Fauré, Edward Elgar’s Chanson de matin and Chanson de nuit, and Night Visions, a new piece by Ball, associate professor of music theory and composition.

Heald has performed with the English String Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic and the Greater Lansing Symphony, among many others. As a soloist and chamber musician, Heald has performed across the U.S. and Great Britain.
