UGA offers course for Certified Management Accountant examination in Gwinnett

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education will offer an instructor-led course to prepare interested professionals for the Certified Management Accountant, or CMA, examination. The review course will be delivered in two sessions at the UGA Gwinnett Campus in Lawrenceville. The first session will be held Wednesdays, Oct. 3-Dec. 12 (no class on Nov. 21) from 6-9 p.m. The second session will be held in the spring, with the dates and time to be announced.

The CMA certification is granted by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, the certification division of IMA®, one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession. The two-part CMA exam covers financial planning, risk analysis, internal controls and financial decision support.

The curriculum for the course will include IMA’s CMA Learning System, a comprehensive study program that combines printed materials and online components with the expertise of an instructor and the discipline of a classroom setting.

“Introducing this program is part of our initiative to provide professionals with pertinent, cutting-edge knowledge that is directly applicable to establishing and maintaining a successful career,” said Denise Logan, department head for professional and personal development at UGA’s Center for Continuing Education. “While the course’s primary focus is to prepare individuals for the CMA exam, it also is a valuable professional development program that will help individuals advance their skills in accounting, finance and business management.”

Backed by almost 40 years of management accounting innovation and insight from IMA, the CMA credential is today’s most market-relevant assessment of professional accounting and finance career qualifications. According to the IMA’s annual salary survey, the average total compensation for those holding the CMA certification is $131,395, which is 21 percent more than those without a certification, or $108,938.
