Athens, Ga. – Courtney Nicole Grap, a 16-year-old junior at Dacula High School, has been named Miss University of Georgia Outstanding Teen for 2013. She is the daughter of Suzie and Jeff Grap of Auburn; her older sister, Rachel, is a student at UGA.
Grap’s school activities include serving as a member of the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Dacula High School Advanced Gold Women’s Chorus. She is also a varsity football cheerleader and secretary of her high school’s student body.
An accomplished vocalist, Grap has sung the national anthem at an Atlanta Braves baseball game.
Grap is heavily involved in community service through the Relay for Life organization. She supports a platform titled “Go Bare for a Cure,” which encourages high school girls to pull their hair back in a ponytail and wear no makeup to school one day a month to raise awareness of breast cancer.
In her spare time she has volunteered more than 1,300 community service hours to reach out to additional organizations such as Special Olympics and the Salvation Army.
Grap will be crowned at the 2013 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. She will also compete in the Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen Competition in Columbus in late spring 2013.
The Miss UGA Outstanding Teen program is affiliated with the Miss UGA Scholarship Pageant and is designed for young women ages 13 to 17. The Outstanding Teen is named at the discretion of pageant directors rather than through a competition.
