President Barack Obama has nominated Jim Yong Kim, president of Dartmouth College, to the lead the World Bank, the White House announced.
A native Korean and winner of a MacArthur “genius” Award, Kim is a physician and anthropologist best known for his work fighting AIDS and tuberculosis in developing countries. Kim has lead Dartmouth for three years, during which time he guided the institution toward a leading role in helping Haiti after its 2010 earthquake. The World Bank’s mission is to reduce poverty and support development, serving as a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries across the globe.
