David Henley, a research professional in the physics and astronomy department of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received $80,999 from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory to survey X-ray absorption lines in the giant halo of hot gas that surrounds the Milky Way galaxy. Henley will use NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory along with data from other X-ray telescopes to measure the thermal pressure and temperature of the gas, to better understand its origin.
