Deepak Mishra, an assistant professor of geography in Franklin College, received funding for research and education involving remote sensing of coastal areas. The National Science Foundation awarded Mishra $32,538 to gauge the impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on the health and productivity of Louisiana salt marshes. Mishra also received $25,000 from NASA to teach students how to use remote-sensing techniques in combination with NASA sensors and models to monitor global climate change.
