DOT releases guide for cyclists, motorists

The Georgia DOT has released Georgia Bike Sense: A Guide for Cyclists and Motorists. The guide is intended to teach cyclists and motorists how to share the road safely and legally. It provides guidance on technique, rules of the road, trail etiquette and safety. It also contains listings of local, state and national bicycle resources. A complete chapter is devoted to Georgia traffic laws that apply to bicycles.

Georgia Bike Sense was produced by the research media office of UGA’s Office of Research Services working in conjunction with GDOT’s bicycle/pedestrian coordinator. Research media oversaw editing and print production and provided illustrations and photography showing safety equipment, riding techniques, and examples of how cyclists can ride safely on roadways and trails.

The publication is being distributed statewide. It is available as a download in its entirety or by individual chapter at http://www.dot.state.ga.us. Printed versions are available from the state DOT’s bicycle/pedestrian coordinator.
