Duke okays donations to leave pool for its Katrina relief volunteers

Duke University has introduced a temporary program that provides reimbursement to employees who volunteered during Hurricane Katrina disaster relief for the time they took off from work. Fellow employees are able to donate their own accrued vacation or paid time off, in half-day or full-day increments, to a general leave pool. From this pool, those employees who volunteered can be reimbursed for up to five days (40 hours) of vacation or paid time off. The program will remain in effect through at least the end of the year.
