Lester D. Stephens, emeritus professor of history in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received the Georgia Historical Society’s 2014 E. Merton Coulter Award for the best article published in the Georgia Historical Quarterly in 2013. His article, “John Ruggles Cotting and the First State Geological Survey of Georgia,” appeared in the summer 2013 issue.
