Emory University is eliminating three academic departments and one academic program, as well as suspending other programs in its College of Arts and Sciences as part of a reorganization effort.
The educational studies, physical education, visual arts and journalism programs will be closed in the coming years. Graduate programs in Spanish and economics will stop admitting students until their roles have been reexamined, according to an announcement by the university.
Citing concerns that current funding has been stretched too thin, Emory College of Arts and Sciences Dean Robin Forman wrote in a letter that some programs would be eliminated or suspended to allow for focus “in traditional strengths of arts and sciences.”
