Three finalists have been named for the position of dean of UGA’s College of Environment and Design and are visiting the university this month to meet with faculty, students and administrators.
The finalists, announced by Provost Arnett C. Mace Jr., were identified in a national search. The new dean will succeed John F. Crowley, who stepped down as dean in 2006.
The finalists are:
• Dan Nadenicek, chair of the department of planning and landscape architecture at Clemson University. He is also director of Healthy Communities and Historic Preservation in Clemson’s Restoration Institute and was previously on the landscape architecture faculty at Penn State University.
• Brian Orland, head of the department of landscape architecture at Penn State University. He previously was at the University of Illinois where he was associate director of the university’s Environmental Council and founder and coordinator of the Imaging Systems Laboratory.
• Scott Weinberg, who has served as interim dean of College of Environment and Design since Sept. 1, 2006. Weinberg has been on the faculty of the School of Environmental Design, a unit of the college, since 1982 and was director of the school, and associate dean of the college, before becoming interim dean.
Each candidate will spend two days meeting with faculty and students in the college and with university administrators. Orland was on campus
Jan. 17 and 18; Nadenicek will visit Jan. 22 and 23; Weinberg’s meetings will be on Jan. 24 and 25.
