Jerry Ceppos, former chief news executive of Knight Ridder, will deliver the 27th annual McGill Lecture Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel.
The McGill Lecture honors the life and memory of Ralph McGill, the outspoken Southern journalist who fought persistently for civil rights during the ’50s and ’60s.Sponsored by UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in Demosthenian Hall.
Ceppos worked for Knight Ridder, the country’s second largest newspaper publisher, for more than six years before retiring in late August. Knight Ridder publishes 31 daily newspapers.
Before becoming Knight Ridder’s vice president for news, Ceppos spent 27 years at the Miami Herald and at the Mercury News, where he was executive editor.
