The UGA debate team of Brent Culpepper and Kevin Rabinowitz won the debate tournament held Jan. 2-4 at California State University in Fullerton, Calif.
The tournament attracted 80 teams from 19 states and the District of Columbia. There were more than 35 universities represented in the competition. In the preliminary phase of the tournament, Culpepper and Rabinowitz compiled a record of five wins and one loss. Following the preliminary debates, the field was reduced from 80 to 32 teams for the single elimination phase of the competition. The UGA debaters defeated teams from Berkeley, Dartmouth, George Washington, Harvard and Northwestern on the way to a first-place finish.
