A Bloomberg News story about Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden’s and his wife Jill’s charitable donations quoted Russell James, an assistant professor of housing and consumer economics, who researches charitable giving. On tax forms, the Bidens reported giving less than 1 percent of income to charity, however, the couple claims to have given money that was not claimed on their taxes.
“That lack of charitable giving at that level of income would definitely be outside the range of what we say is normal,” said James.
