Athens, Ga. – The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host the “Master of Fine Arts Degree Candidates Exhibition,” featuring work by students graduating from the Lamar Dodd School of Art, April 12 to May 4.
A free preview of the exhibition will be held April 11 from 6-9 p.m. in conjunction with the museum’s quarterly reception, “90 Carlton: Spring,” with catering by home.made. The museum will also host “MFA Speaks,” a panel discussion with the students about their work, on April 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Each student has contributed to creating an exhibition defined by its diversity.
“The 2014 Masters of Fine Arts exhibition includes 16 talented emerging artists working in various media and conceptual positions including: painting, printmaking, interior design, sculpture, fabric design, photography and jewelry and metals,” said Mary Hallam Pearse, assistant professor of art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art and faculty adviser to the students. “The work you will see is materially and conceptually varied and acts as witness to all kinds of experience. No single thread emerges or ties the work together, a testament to the vital significance of art as a method for producing knowledge.”
Todd Rivers, head preparator at the museum, is serving as curator of this year’s MFA show. “Giving MFA students the opportunity to display here continues Alfred Heber Holbrook’s mission, with Lamar Dodd, to have a relationship between the art school and the museum,” he said. “The MFA show continues that relationship between the two entities, and the students benefit because it gives them the insight into the planning and creation of an exhibition.”
