Growth in donations to universities for 2015-16 less than predicted

Higher education fundraisers brought in less money than expected in the 2015-2016 academic year, according to a survey by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Institutions saw giving increase by 4.5 percent, a full percentage point below average donation growth over the past 20 years.

UGA, however, received record donations of $183.3 million, a 28 percent increase from last year’s $144 million.

Private gifts serve a variety of purposes, including funding student scholarships, recruiting and retaining faculty, and increasing research at the university.
