The College of Pharmacy is observing National Pharmacy Day on Oct. 18 from 2-5 p.m. with DAWGtoberfest: Rx for Good Health. It will be an afternoon of health promotion and relaxation on the lawn of D.W. Brooks Mall.
This event, sponsored by the Academy of Students of Pharmacy, will include a health fair and musical performance. Free body fat analysis, diabetes assessment and blood pressure check will be performed. Student and faculty booths will be set up on the lawn with free awareness and screening information on asthma, breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension, low-carb diets, immunization schedules, sexually transmitted diseases and smoking cessation. Pharmacy faculty and students will be on hand to answer questions about nonprescription and prescription medications.
Participants can receive flu vaccinations for $24, blood lipids checks for $25 and bone density screening for $10. Cash, debit cards and credit cards will be accepted.
DAWGtoberfest is open to university students, faculty, staff and families in the Athens community. Light refreshments also will be provided. Parking is available in the Carlton Street Parking deck.
