Professor of oboe Reid Messich will give a recital as part of the Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall. Tickets to the performance, which features staff accompanist Damon Denton on piano, are $10, $5 for UGA students with ID.
“This recital is a great opportunity for me to collaborate with some colleagues I don’t usually get to work with,” said Messich, who joined the Hugh Hodgson School of Music in 2010. “I’m getting to perform with several members of the brass faculty, which is something exciting and different for me.”
Throughout the evening, Messich will be joined onstage by faculty members Jean Martin-Williams (horn) and Brandon Craswell (trumpet) as well as professor of tuba-euphonium David Zerkel, with whom he will premiere “Le fond même, du deuil,” a work by UGA professor Adrian P. Childs.
“David and I were looking for compositions for oboe and tuba and hadn’t found anything that really appealed to us,” Messich said. “It was about that time that Adrian stepped forward, and we were happy to have him write something original for us.”
