University highlights, achievements, awards and scholarships:
Recently, I was honored with the Outstanding Senior Leader Award. I received this award because of academic excellence and community involvement. I believe that being an ambassador of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences has helped me not only become a better leader, but has also taught me how to better my college for future students.
Throughout my time at UGA, I have been a part of many organizations that have contributed to my learning, such as UGA Miracle, Relay for Life and Crosstrainers Mentoring Program. As a Zell Miller Scholarship recipient and Presidential Scholar, I strive to have a healthy balance between academics and community involvement.
Current Employment:
Intern at Aspire Clinic
Family Ties to UGA:
Basically none—after my brother went to Georgia Tech, I was raised a Tech fan. Of course, once I went to Georgia and he married a Georgia graduate, my family easily saw which one was better!
I chose to attend UGA because…
I honestly never really considered any other school besides UGA. Still, I knew I always wanted to go to UGA because of its academic reputation, its community involvement and the wide variety of options offered. I also chose UGA because it offered my major, human development and family science. Lastly, I chose UGA because I wanted to become a part of the Bulldog Nation. My love for football, game days and the environment of the student section had me sold from day one.
My favorite things to do on campus are…
… attending UGA games, studying on North Campus at Herty Field, spending time at the Alpha Chi Omega house, playing basketball on the courts beside Myers quadrangle and eating a burger at Clocked or getting cookiewiches at Insomnia downtown. I really enjoy my internship at the Aspire Clinic on campus and visiting the Child Development Lab and playing with the children.
When I have free time, I like…
… to hike at the Botanical Garden, read any good fiction book, find geocaches around Athens, spend time with my friends and find reasons why I need to celebrate with milkshakes from The Grill.
The craziest thing I’ve done is…
… trying to move in with over 5,000 other students up six flights of stairs all at the same time.
My favorite place to study is…
… really anywhere on North Campus, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the picnic tables at Herty Field by the fountain.
My favorite professor is…
… Melissa Kozak. She always makes the material interesting and easily understandable. Not only is she dedicated to bettering students’ academic careers, but she takes the time to help you grow into your personal and professional goals for life. Even with all that she has on her plate, she always has time for you, the student, first. After having her for three solid years, I can definitely say that she impacted my life in a positive way while at UGA. From leading me to my future steps to helping me figure out my current ones, I would not be where I am today without her guidance.
If I could share an afternoon with anyone, I would love to share it with…
… C.S. Lewis. Especially as a Christian, the way he thinks challenges me as a person. His books are incredible and the meanings behind his words are so significant. I would love to ask him questions about not only his faith, but what got him started on these sorts of topics in his writings.
If I knew I could not fail, I would…
… start programs at college campuses targeted at helping freshmen adjust to college. I would love to integrate seniors, especially within their same major, who could act as somewhat of a mentor. I know as a freshman I had so many questions and just didn’t know where to begin searching for the answers. A more personable approach than career centers I think would really put freshmen in a place where they can be successful.
If money was not a consideration, I would love to…
… travel! I would love to study once 0n every continent, besides Antarctica. I would want the different cultural experiences and learn within different environmental settings. I would also want to donate to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. FACS uses this money to provide its students with scholarships and money to study abroad.
After graduation, I plan to…
… attend graduate school for marriage and family therapy and become a licensed therapist. One day, I hope to open my own private practice.
The one UGA experience I will always remember will be…
… becoming close with my professors within my department in my college. It is so hard to pinpoint just a single thing that I will take with me, but what I do know is that I will never forget the valuable relationships I made during my time at UGA. The impact that the professors in my major had on me really influenced who I have become as an individual, and that is definitely something I will carry with me.
