Athens, Ga. – The International Student Life Office at the University of Georgia will host the 10th annual International Street Festival on College Square in downtown Athens on Saturday, April 12 from noon to 5 p.m. This year’s theme is “Bringing the World to Athens.” Dozens of international student organizations and local community groups will sponsor informative and interactive cultural displays as well as musical and dance performances.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the International Street Festival,” said International Student Life Director Leigh Poole. “This event is an extraordinary opportunity to help people learn about other cultures as well as to create connections between international students and the Athens community. Each year typically 5,000 people attend, and we’re hoping to top that number this year.”
Visitors will have an opportunity to collect “passport” stamps from each of the countries represented. Those who collect all available stamps will receive a ticket for a prize drawing. A “Children’s Corner” will allow young guests to color international paper dolls, to create their own flags, to craft African necklaces, to place their handprints on a large world map, and get their face painted by one of the many event volunteers. Unique international and multinational groups will perform throughout the day as well.
Door prizes and giveaways will be available from local sponsoring businesses. There is no cost to attend the International Street Festival or to participate in any of its activities and performances.
