Isakson to deliver SPIA’s Getzen Lecture

Athens, Ga.- U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will deliver the University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs’ 2010 Getzen Lecture on Government Accountability. His lecture, entitled “Congress and the Challenges of Deficits and Debt” will be given Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the UGA Chapel . Following his remarks, Isakson will take questions from the audience. The event is open to the public.

Entering politics in 1974, Isakson served 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and three years as chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. In 1999, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the first of three terms before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004.

“Senator Johnny Isakson has had a distinguished legislative career in Georgia and now in the U.S. Congress focusing on such important policy issues as healthcare, education and small business development,” said Thomas P. Lauth, dean of UGA’s School of Public and International Affairs. “I am very pleased that he will be our Getzen lecturer this year.”

The lecture is co-hosted by the School of Public and International Affairs and the Department of Public Administration and Policy.
