J. David Puett, Regents Professor and head of biochemistry and molecular biology, has begun his appointment as president of the Association of Medical and Graduate Departments of Biochemistry.
The association represents the biochemistry programs in the nation’s 125 medical schools and the non-medical research universities; a number of institutions from Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands also participate in the Association. Active in all matters dealing with research and research funding; undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate education and training; and public policy, the association also participates in lobbying for increased federal support, mainly NIH and NSF funding, with the National Caucus for Basic Biomedical Science Chairs.
